St. John’s Wort is one of the most extensively studied herbs in Western herbalism, with a tradition of use stretching back to ancient Greece. Named for its tendency to bloom around the feast of St. John (late June), this sun-loving perennial is traditionally associated with mood support and nervous system wellness.
The cut and sifted herb is commonly used in tea blending, tincture preparation, and infused oil making. Its slightly bitter, earthy flavor blends well with lemon balm, passionflower, and chamomile in mood-support formulations. The characteristic red pigment (hypericin) is visible when the herb is steeped or macerated in oil.
