Tulsi or Holy Basil has been immortalized in Ayurvedic texts as significant in holistic herbal medicine. Tulsi comes from the mint family. The Vana type of Tulsi is called the ‘forest type’. It can be distinguished from other types of Tulsi by its fragrance, a fusion of lemon, licorice, peppermint and clove. It is considered sacred in the Hindu tradition. Fresh Tulsi leaves can be brewed to make a herbal tea that gently stimulates the mind and helps the body assimilate oxygen and nutrients. Tulsi can be preserved in dried powdered form and frozen for later use. Tulsi (Vana) is a perennial bush, native to India, Sri Lanka, parts of Indonesia and Africa.
