Organic Elderberries Whole
Our organic Elderberries Whole look like grapes, except they grow on shrubs instead of vines. The berry itself has a deeper and darker purple color than most other berries. Elderberries brew into a divinely sweet and tart tea that you can enjoy on its own or blended with cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and stevia or honey.
You can also process elderberries into jams, jellies, syrups, and wine. They taste great on toast and work well as a natural food coloring for baked goods.
Traditional Uses of Elderberries
Elderberries have been a cornerstone of European folk medicine for centuries. Herbalists have used elderberries for centuries in traditional European preparations. The berries are rich in anthocyanins, flavonoids, and vitamin C. Elderberry syrup and tea remain popular botanical staples in many cultures.
Native American and European herbal traditions have long incorporated elderberries into their botanical practices.
How to Brew Elderberry Tea
Add one to two tablespoons of dried elderberries to 8 ounces of water. Simmer on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes to create a rich decoction. Strain and serve warm with honey and lemon. For a spiced version, add a cinnamon stick and a few whole cloves while simmering.
Important: Always cook or brew dried elderberries before consuming. Raw elderberries contain compounds that should be broken down by heat.
