Cassia and Ceylon Cinnamon

At Hatton Naturals, we source our certified organic Cinnamon (Cassia and Ceylon) directly from small-scale co-ops in India and Sri Lanka. Our wild-harvested Cinnamon is used in many products to add a warm scent and taste to foods and beverages as well as candles and gum.

True Ceylon Cinnamon Quills
Quills or sticks are the most recognizable form of cinnamon other than powder. Adding one to a beverage can make it look more warm and act as a stirring tool.

We offer two types, Cassia and Ceylon, of Cinnamon in a variety of states. Both have roots dated back centuries in Asia. In fact, Ceylon is the former name of Sri Lanka.

Cinnamon: Cassia and Ceylon

Of the two types, Cassia is the more common. This type is famously known for its inclusion as a must-have in Chinese herbology, and its roots in traditional Chinese medicine is believed to go back 3,500 years. Both in very high concentrations can be toxic, and some people are unfortunately allergic, so be clear when selling products with it in it.

When it comes to cooking, Cassia is preferred as it retains its flavors better. From cinnamon rolls to pork flavoring, the herb is versatile in the kitchen. Some health-conscience cereals use Cinnamon to maintain sweetness as sugar is often an ingredient cut back on.

Also, when brewing whiskey, cider, or brandy, it is best to use this type of Cinnamon.

If you want the aroma of Cinnamon for products like candles or potpourri, Ceylon is the way to go. In addition to using Ceylon for these products, it is a breath freshener. This is why Cinnamon is found in things like toothpaste and gum.

Cinnamon is often thought of as a winter flavoring, but it is great for fall as well.

States of Cinnamon

Sticks: Also known as quills, sticks are the whole, dry form of Cinnamon. Hatton Naturals offers both Cassia and true Ceylon in stick form. If you like this spice’s unique flavor, try our organic Cardamom Whole Green. This too comes from Sri Lanka.

Powder: Powder is the finest form we offer these cinnamon in (both Ceylon and Cassia.) This form is best for drinks, be it tea, wine or curries. If you want to add just a dash on the go, try a pinch in your coffee or hot chocolate.

Cut & Sifted: Both types of Cinnamon in this state have been cut into smaller pieces and sifter to remove dust. This dust often occurs in the cutting process. In addition to dust, this process also removed smaller pieces. Some customers prefer this product for its aesthetics, but cut & sifted is also great for beginners. The pieces being smaller and even are easier to handle. Check out the cut & sifted Cassia and true Ceylon.

Chips: Chips are the inner and outer barks of true Ceylon Cinnamon.
